    Swachh Bharat Mission – Clean India Initiative

    With India's rapidly growing population, access to basic sanitation and sewage infrastructure has become a challenge. Improper sanitation systems have contributed to water pollution and disease outbreaks. To address this, the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation and the Ministry of Urban Development launched the Swachh Bharat Mission with the aim of achieving nationwide sanitation and waste management by October 2, 2019.

    Mission Objectives

    • Eliminate open defecation
    • Abolish manual scavenging
    • Implement modern scientific solid waste management
    • Encourage behavioral change towards healthy sanitation practices
    • Raise awareness on health and hygiene

    Key Components

    • Construction of household toilets
    • Construction and maintenance of public toilets
    • Solid Waste Management (SWM)
    • Information, Education & Communication (IEC) and public awareness campaigns
