Advertisement refers to any public display using posters, hoardings, banners, glow signs, name boards, directional signs, existing light poles, letter boards, models, or balloons to communicate messages to the public.
Advertisement formats include hoardings, glow sign boards, kiosks, mobile vans, and balloons. These require formal approval from the Advertisement Department.
Agencies must participate in tenders to gain advertisement rights. Permissions for hoardings or glow signboards can be obtained from the office during working hours for a nominal fee of ₹5.
The department not only grants permissions but also imposes advertisement taxes on approved displays. This is referred to as the Advertisement Fee.
If an agency fails to follow the approved guidelines, the department has the authority to remove the advertisement. Unauthorized displays may be regularized only with commissioner approval and are subject to a penalty of five times the standard fee.
